MOUNTAIN & PRAIRIE READS

A book club for people who don’t want to sit through another Zoom call.

Read a great book. Ask the author a question. Listen to the answer.

HOW IT WORKS

1) Every other month or so, I’ll pick one book that satisfies three criteria:
– It’s (loosely) tied to the American West.
– I think it will be an enjoyable read for a large portion of the M&P audience.
– The author is interesting, humble, and seems like someone who doesn’t take themselves too seriously.

2) As soon as I announce the book, you can buy a copy from your preferred bookstore, borrow it from a friend, or check it out from your local library.

3) Read it. Or, if you already have, skip to the next step.

4) Have a burning question about the book? Send it to me via voicemail or the form below.

5) When I sit down with the author, I’ll spend part of the interview asking some of your questions.

6) Listen to the podcast to hear your question answered by the author.

That’s it! Super simple. No awkward large-group Zoom calls, no gawking at virtual arguments on a Goodreads message board, no listening to soliloquies from people who don’t have questions but just like to hear themselves talk.

This is the kind of book club I would actually like to join.

A FEW MORE THINGS

  • You don’t have to read the whole book to participate. If you read the first three chapters and have a question, send it in!
  • Not every selection will be a new release. If you read the book years ago and have had a question stuck in your head ever since, send it in!
  • I probably won’t be able to ask every question I receive, but I’ll work in as many as I can and choose the most interesting ones for the conversation.
  • M&P Reads selections are never paid placements. Publishers cannot pay to have their books featured. Every book is chosen by me using the criteria above + my weird interests.
  • One note about our first selection: Water Lines is published by Patagonia Books, a sponsor of Mountain & Prairie. But I’ve known Riverhorse for many years and have been following the writing of this book since long before I had a business relationship with Patagonia. Water Lines was selected independently, and Patagonia did not pay to have it featured.
